Ask A Vegan
We’re sure you have a lot of questions. So, while we were compiling our plant-based living guide we asked Leozette Roode, actual vegan, to give us the low-down. She’s also the Media and Outreach Manager at Humane Society International – Africa and author of The South African Vegan Cookbook.
Will plant-based food fill me up?
Yes, you can feast on an abundance of delicious plant-based foods and feel more than satisfied. The key is to opt for a variety of foods to ensure you consume all the nutrients you need. For example, you can add legumes, roasted vegetables and nuts to create a substantial salad or wrap.
Will I get bored with the limited meal options?
Absolutely not. Build up a database of easy and tasty recipes you look forward to feasting on (find delicious plant-based recipes right here) and then plan out your meals and grocery shopping.Oh and… keep a ready-to-eat meal in the freezer for emergencies.
Can I still eat out?
Totally. Look up the restaurant’s menu so you know what your options will be. If it looks like there’s nothing on it for you, give them a call and see what they can do.If you go out on a whim, take a scan through the menu and ask if you can make any substitutions. If you find veggie sides you like, order two or three of those as mains.
P.S. There’s a lot more to say on this subject, check out Leozette’s article on eating out while living plant-based.
