Star anise is a spice that is dried and comes from the star-shaped fruit of the Illicium verum tree which is native to northeast Vietnam and southwest China. It has a strong, licorice-like  and sweet flavour and aroma, and is commonly used in Asian cuisine.

HOW TO USE

• Add to red wine or port when making Gluhwein in winter 
• Add to braising liquid when making oriental braised duck and pot roast.
