Dhal Mhakani

Ingredients

  • 3 T dhal spice blend
  • 50 g butter (or vegan alternative)
  • 4 T cooking oil
  • 125 g red lentils
  • 200 g baby Rosa tomatoes
  • 1 litre water
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 T fresh coriander, roughly chopped
  • 250 g red lentils
  • 200 g baby Rosa tomatoes, halved (optional)
  • 1 litre water
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 T fresh coriander, roughly chopped
  • onion, diced

Cooking Instructions

  1. Heat oil and butter in a pot to medium heat. Add onions and dhal spice and saute for 8 minutes.
     
  2. Add the lentils and fry for 2 minutes, stirring often.
     
  3. Add the water, tomatoes (if using) and salt and cook for 20 - 30 minutes with lid off until the lentils are soft, and the dhal has thickened.
     
  4. Stir through the chopped fresh coriander. Serve.
