TOGETHER WE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
During these challenging times, there are many in our communities who are facing hunger – at a time when malnourishment can make people even more vulnerable to the effects of the coronavirus.
As a business we believe in making a difference where we can. We’ve been taking a stand against hunger for many years, working with various initiatives to help alleviate hunger in South Africa. It’s in our DNA to care not only for our own, but also for our wider community.
To make it easier for everyone to give, we’re putting trolleys at the entrances of our stores across the country so you can donate basic long life groceries and toiletries every time you shop. Think canned beans, tomatoes and veggies, long life milk, sugar and basic pasta. There’s also a need for personal toiletries like soap, handwash and sanitary pads.
To make sure that these items are distributed to vulnerable families in our communities, we’re partnering with trusted NGOs.
Gift of the Givers
We’ve had a long-standing partnership with Gift of the Givers and have built up a deep understanding of how they work. They are one of the largest national disaster relief foundations with a deep reach into communities. Stores in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, East London, Port Elizabeth, Kimberley, Nelspruit and Polokwane will be partnering with the Gift of the Givers.
COMMUNITY ACTION NETWORK [CAN]
Communities across the Western Cape have banded together to offer support to their neighbours, whose residents are in more precarious positions. The organisation consists of 11 000 members, and each area is working via known networks within their communities to identify and reach the needy. We have managed to match every one of their branches with one of our stores, making use of their existing infrastructure to get the food to where it’s needed most. Stores in the Western Cape will be partnering with the Community Action Network.
