How to Choose The Right Bottle For Your Baby

Baby bottles come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and textures. The most important factor in the process of choosing the right bottle is making sure that your baby takes to it, and once that is achieved, you can stick to it.

PLASTIC BOTTLES

Plastic bottles are widely used and inexpensive. When buying one, make sure it is PVC, BPS + BPA and Phthalates free.

TEMPERATURE BOTTLES

Temperature bottles are designed with control properties that indicate when the milk is too hot.

LEARNER BOTTLES

These bottles are for the big boys and girls who are learning to feed themselves without the help of their parents.

PREEMIE BOTTLES

Preemie bottles are for babies born before their due date. Because they are premature, they have a harder time latching on and may need a slower flow. Preemie bottles come with teats with a slower flow to help with feeding and reduce air intake.

BOTTLE TEATS

Baby bottles come with teats, but may need to be replaced and bought separately. In the event that you do buy a teat separately, you’ll need to choose between the different styles of nipples, namely; traditional, orthodontic, flat topped, anti-vacuum, multi-flow, and disposable.

Bottle teats are made up of three materials; latex, rubber and silicone. Silicone is long-lasting, free from harmful chemicals and completely safe for babies. Rubber nipples are also safe, however, because they are soft, they are susceptible to bites.

Teats have a different number of holes designed to give your baby an optimized flow of milk as they grow older and stronger.

  • First flow is for newborns
  • Newborn flow is for both newborns and breastfed babies
  • Slow flow is for newborns from one month old
  • Medium flow is for babies three months and older
  • Fast flow is for babies six months and older
