Water Safety
- Never take your eyes off toddlers near water
First Aid
- Make sure you’ve got a first-aid kit containing the basics: gauze pads and sterile bandages of various sizes, scissors, tweezers and needles, thermometer, antiseptic cream, sunscreen, tongue depressors which can also be used as splints, hand sanitiser / soap, latex gloves, basic medications like aspirin/ non-aspirin pain relievers, antibiotic ointment
Out & About
- When outdoors, protect your child’s sensitive skin from the sun by using sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher, and remember to reapply regularly
- Ensure that play areas are safe, clean and away from traffic.
At Home
- Ensure that all windows are toddler-proof
- Install and inspect childproofing latches on cupboards, stair gates, door knob covers and plug point covers
- Use safety rails on beds, especially for bunk beds
- Store paraffin bottles, fuel and cleaning products well out of children’s reach
Cooking
- Turn pot handles to the back of the stove when you’re cooking
- Keep children away from flames and stoves
In Transit
- Never let a child sit on your lap while driving in a car
- Check your child’s car seat to make sure it still fits and is installed properly.
