Water Safety

  • Never take your eyes off toddlers near water

First Aid

  • Make sure you’ve got a first-aid kit containing the basics: gauze pads and sterile bandages of various sizes, scissors, tweezers and needles, thermometer, antiseptic cream, sunscreen, tongue depressors which can also be used as splints, hand sanitiser / soap, latex gloves, basic medications like aspirin/ non-aspirin pain relievers, antibiotic ointment

 

Out & About

  • When outdoors, protect your child’s sensitive skin from the sun by using sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher, and remember to reapply regularly
  • Ensure that play areas are safe, clean and away from traffic.

 

At Home

  • Ensure that all windows are toddler-proof
  • Install and inspect childproofing latches on cupboards, stair gates, door knob covers and plug point covers
  • Use safety rails on beds, especially for bunk beds
  • Store paraffin bottles, fuel and cleaning products well out of children’s reach

 

Cooking

  • Turn pot handles to the back of the stove when you’re cooking
  • Keep children away from flames and stoves

 

In Transit

  • Never let a child sit on your lap while driving in a car
  • Check your child’s car seat to make sure it still fits and is installed properly.
