Marrakech, 1966. The Moroccan sun bathes the city in a warm, intoxicating light. Captivated by its vibrant landscape, pulsating with life and colour, Yves Saint Laurent falls in love with Marrakech. It was in this dazzling destination that he famously declared to have discovered the true essence of “colour” – a new depth to his creativity. 

Amidst his Moroccan passion, he acquired Dar el-Hanch, his first sanctuary within the medina. Known as “The House of the Snake,” this traditional riad bore the mark of its owner – a vibrant red and blue cobra, painted by Monsieur Saint Laurent himself, adorning its walls and the cards he sent to friends. Within the riad's exhilarating courtyards and shaded terraces, a haven of haute bohemian springs flourished. 

The air, lifted with the intoxicating perfume of bitter orange trees in full bloom from the adjacent ‘Lemon Garden’, became inextricably linked to sun-drenched afternoons spent with muses and friends. The heady, refreshing scent filled the riad, a constant reminder of the creative energy that permeated his Moroccan sanctuary.

Grounding the fragrance, the warmth of ambery cistus labdanum absolute and creamy sandalwood oil add sensual depth. Their woody notes evoke the very furniture Saint Laurent sourced from the souks of Marrakech, imbuing his riad with the city's soul.
