How To Keep Your Baby Warm All WInter
A winter baby can be a sweaty, squirmy baby. Here are tips and products to keep yours warm and comfortable, without any crankiness.
If you're not a member of Woolworths Littleworld yet, why not find out about the benefits?
KEEPING BABY WARM AT NIGHT
A warm novelty fleece blanket for your baby’s cot is ideal. Soft cotton one-piece footed baby grows will keep baby warm all night, provided the room is not too cold. You can put a body vest under the baby grow.
WHEN LEAVING THE HOUSE
It’s possible to leave the house without packing the entire nursery. Easy-on, easy-off outer layers provide a great buffer against the cold. Once your baby is dressed in her outfit, simply slip her into a warm outer layer. Once you’re indoors – even if for a short while – take off at least one layer.
HOW LONG CAN I STAY OUT?
It’s good for your baby to get some fresh air every day. Be sensitive to your baby's non-verbal signals – if he’s happy to be out at first but starts fussing after a while, he may be trying to tell you that he’s cold. Remember your baby needs one more layer of clothing than you do. Make sure your baby’s head, neck, hands and feet are well covered.
PROTECT BABY'S SKIN
Chilly weather and dry heat indoors can sap moisture from your skin. If you're heading outdoors, put on some lotion to prevent dry, chapped skin. When you wash your baby, use a mild soap and warm, not hot, water. Wrap her in a hooded baby towel as soon as you take her out of the water and pat her dry quickly.
SHOPPING TIPS
Look for the following when shopping for baby clothes:
A fleece hoodie with a chill-chasing material on the inside made for warm layering.
Outfits (bodysuits) with poppers that run all the way down to the knee or ankle – perfect for nappy changes or potty time.
Elasticated cuffs around ankles and wrists to prevent the cold from creeping in.
