Feast in China

The diversity in Chinese cuisine can be seen in the way the different flavours (sour, sweet, salty and spicy) can be found in the regions across China. Spicy food, for example, can be found in central and South China. Saltiness is common in the coastal areas and Northern China. Sweet flavours are popular in the Eastern regions. While the love of vinegar, in Shanxi province, brings out some sour flavours.

Soy sauce: There's nothing quite like a good bottle of soy sauce. It’s great in braises and stir-fries.

Sesame oil: Very fragrant and is most commonly used to drizzle at the end of cooking.

Ginger: Grated, minced or cut into coins, ginger is always a great idea!

Egg noodles: Choose the type(s) of noodles you like and trust your gut. You don’t need too many options.

Five spice powder is a blend of cinnamon, cloves, Sichuan peppercorns, fennel and star anise. These spices help give the different flavours in Chinese cooking.
