Join the Funmammasa Rainbow Challenge

@Funmammasa has created the Rainbow Kids Facebook page to inspire kids with cheap and cheerful activities, to help keep them happy and connected with friends. Other mammas share ideas and works of art daily, and you can too. Plus, all the fun games are kid approved.

Here are your first 11 activities.

  • Day 1: A scavenger hunt.

Fill a bag with small treasures – a brooch, a ball, a toy, puzzles etc. and ask your child to remove one item at a time and describe their “treasures”. Also, try a Gratitude or Colour Scavenger Hunt. Print a list of items to find – something that makes them happy, some things in their favourite colour, something they love to smell, something that’ll make someone smile – and ask your tiny tyke to search for those items around your home and garden to keep them entertained for hours.

    Day 2. Sack Race.

All you need is a pillowcase and active jumpers. Moms and dads can hop into the fun too!

Day 3: Make ‘real’ dinosaur eggs.

Boil some eggs and leave the shell on. Place into food colouring and cover completely. Leave to cool and peel. Wow!

  • Day 4: Handprint alphabet.

Dip your child’s hand into different-coloured paints and turn those handprints into animals or treats starting with each letter of the alphabet. For instance, two orange hands side by side can be “C for crab”.

    Day 5: Handprint superheroes.

Dip your child’s hand into different paint colours, and turn their handprints into superheroes – e.g. yellow and red can be Wonderwoman, green can be The Hulk or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, red can be Spiderman and blue, Captain America. Add eyes, capes ad spiderwebs.

    Day 6: Cardboard tube art.

An old toilet or kitchen roll tubes makes an amazing “paintbrush”. Dip the edges into paint and create hearts and animals for cards, napkins, wrapping paper, T-shirts and more.

  • Day 7: Finger puppets.

Felt. Scissors. Glue. Googly eyes. Done! Let their imagination run wild and create characters with hats, moustaches and hair made with wool.

  • Day 8: Tree of hearts family decoration.

Write a special message on a cut-out heart to each of your friends, cousins and grandparents who you miss. Then hang it on a family tree with string.

  • Day 9: Day of Joy.

Encourage your children to discuss all the ways the things at home bring them joy. What makes them happy right now? Use their expressions of joy to make a picture, collage or artwork.

Day 10: Make ‘I Love You’ Cards

    For friends and family.

  • Day 11: Rainbow watercolour hearts:

Cut serviettes into hearts and colour them in using markers. Dip a paintbrush into water and paint over the drawings to create a watercolour work of art!
