1 Kaapzicht Granite Ridge Chenin Blanc
Kaapzicht and winemaker Danie Steytler Jr are renowned for their Chenin Blanc, and this one is a balanced and fresh example of a Bottelary Hills white. Some oak-barrel influence has given wine a rounded mouthfeel, with a generous fruit profile of white stone fruit. Perfect for a long, lazy lunch.
2 Domaine Grier French Rosé
Coming from the Roussillon region in the south of France, this rosé is dry with superb aromas of rose petals, red cherries and red apple skin. Ideal for afternoon sundowners - fresh flavours linger, making you want another glass.
3 Woolworths Cherry Cinsault
Cinsault has seen some rejuvenation recently. A grape with a thin skin and flavours of ripe red berries, this is the ideal light red wine. Juicy flavours show a hint of cardamom and maraschino cherries. An amazing wine paired with pork, duck or braaied chicken.
4 Springfield Albariño
Only a handful of local producers have this Spanish varietal to work with, but the wines show superbly. This one is light and aromatic, with notes of ripe Granny Smith apples and orange blossom – the perfect crowd-pleaser. Enjoy with braaied prawns.
5 Terra Del Capo Sangiovese
Sangiovese originates in Italy and pairs perfectly with the cheese-and-charcuterie platters we all love over weekends. This is light-bodied with flavours of dried cherries, plums and cinnamon. It's also a great wine to pour with waterblommetjie bredie.
6 Woolworths Signature Shiraz
This is an excellent example of a great-value quality wine. Made by Carl Schultz at Hartenberg, it has silky tannins with a gentle weight and lingering flavours of prunes and raspberries. Part of Woolworths' Signature range, it's a true reflection of the region and pairs well with lamb.
