Make every day Mandela Day

It has been 100 years since the birth of Tata Madiba and this week sees countless organisations and people throughout the country working for doing goodwill work  in honour of Nelson Mandela’s legacy. Join the movement. Take action against poverty. This is your chance to #BeTheLegacy.

In order to celebrate 100 years – and the astonishing legacy – of Tata Madiba, this year at Woolworths we’ve undertaken to support no less than 100 projects working to make a better South Africa. We’ve donated R5000 to every project because we share Madiba’s belief that it is in our hands to “create a better world for all who live in it”.

For individuals, there are many ways to make a difference. At Woolworths alone we’re offering 3 celebratory centenary products to shoppers, all of which are made in Africa, providing job opportunities to local communities.

These include:

- A Madiba reusable bag, proceeds of which will go to the Caring4Girls initiative, an NGO that distributes sanitary towels to adolescent girls, which helps them stay in school during their monthly cycles.

- A Madiba bracelet, the proceeds of which will go to the Nelson Mandela Literacy Project. This project aims to refurbish old containers and turn them into libraries for under-resourced school children across the country.

- A beautiful Nelson Mandela centenary t-shirt , the proceeds of which will be donated to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Apart from the countless charitable organisations out there, working hard to create a better life for everyone in South Africa, you can take 67 seconds to download the MySchool app and sign up for your free virtual card. Select Better SA as the cause you want to raise funds for, and you can help create even more volunteer opportunities.
