Easy, Ikea-style meatballs for the win
Inspired by the Swedish retail giant Ikea’s famous meatballs, these meatballs are quick to make and packed with flavour. It’s a great recipe to pull out when the masses descend, now that December is almost here…
- Combine 500 g beef mince,
- 2 tablespoons dried breadcrumbs,
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley,
- 1 free range egg (beaten),
- 1 teaspoon dried garlic,
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg,
- 1 small onion (finely chopped) and ground white pepper and salt, to taste.
- Roll the mixture into 3 cm balls.
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a pan and fry the meatballs in batches over a medium heat until cooked through.
- To make the sauce, melt 6 tablespoons butter in a pan.
- Add 3 tablespoons flour and whisk until it turns light brown.
- Add 2 cups beef stock, 1 cup cream, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce and 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard and simmer.
- Whisk until thick.
- Add the meatballs and any pan juices to the sauce and simmer for another 2 minutes.
