#Eatwell challenge: Pineapple

This week: New ways to enjoy this sweet tropical treat

Every week we challenge you to add something new to your diet by taking up our #Eatwell challenge.

Pineapples originated from South America and are now grown in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. In case you’re wondering, the name probably came from their resemblance to pine cones. Another interesting fact is that a pineapple is actually made up of many small fruitlets that fuse together around a fibrous core. At Woolies you’ll find the best, sweetest locally grown pineapples whole, dried or in convenient snack packs.

7 ways to enjoy pineapple

1.    Skewer pineapple chunks and braai for  dessert
2.    Grate pineapple and carrot or raw butternut to make a refreshing salad
3.    Add pineapple chunks to chicken or pork stir fries
4.    Munch on fresh or dried pineappple as a snack
5.    Sprinkle slices of fresh pineapple with chilli flakes and caramelise in a little butter
6.    Juice fresh pineapple for a refreshing drink
7.    Make a fresh pineapple and mango chutney with mint, red bell pepper and spring onions
