NAPPIES

Pack one nappy for every hour you’ll be out, but when in doubt, add a few extra. There will definitely be days when three nappies can be used in one changing, so better to be prepared.

WIPES

BARRIER CREAM

Barrier cream is a good defence against nappy rash, so apply it with every nappy change.

PLASTIC BAGS

Ideal for disposing of soiled nappies or wet/dirty clothes. You can store a few Woolworths plastic bags (which are made from recycled plastic) in your baby bag rather than buying nappy bags.

HAND SANITISER

Post nappy change, it can be tricky trying to wrangle baby and wash your hands. Keep hand sanitiser handy so you can give your hands a quick wipe.

BOTTLES

If you’re bottle-feeding your baby, pack sterilised bottles and formula or expressed breast milk. For formula, put cooled boiled water in a thermos so that your water will be warm when you pour it out for a quick feed.

BLANKET

Blankets are great for swaddling your baby at nap time, keeping the sun out of your pram, as a makeshift play mat for baby or to cover you while you breastfeed. Lightweight blankets in summer are best and you can opt for fluffier, warmer options during the cooler months.

BIBS

While you don’t really need bibs in the beginning, babies do start to drool, and a dribble bib can prevent too many outfit changes during the day.

DUMMY AND STERILISER

If your baby has taken to dummies, then these are a lifesaver when they start to niggle and need some help soothing. Don’t forget sterilising solution or wipes, as they tend to spit them out quite often.

SUNSCREEN AND HAT

As the weather warms up, you can never be too careful. A trip out for lunch could mean al fresco dining, and you’ll want to protect your baby’s delicate skin.
