The Woolworths Fragrance Guide
The foolproof way to find your new go-to fragrance or the perfect gift? Before you splurge, look for new scents from the family of fragrances you know you – or your loved one – already likes. From woody to floral and fruity to fresh, there’s a world of fragrance for you to try.
Woody
Woody notes add richness, elegance and depth to a fragrance – think Sandalwood, Pine, Patchouli and Cedarwood. With their smoky, leathery and warm scent, they’re perfect for wearing in the evening.
Fruity
On the edge between floral and fresh, fruity fragrances were made for summer. Sweet and crisp or luscious and tropical, they’re refreshingly light, bursting with vibrant and sparkly notes.
Floral
Floral fragrances are feminine, delightful and fresh. The whimsical fragrances incorporate notes such as jasmine, lilies and roses. They can be made either warmer with spices or more fruity with notes of sweet and bitter fruits.
Spicy
Often described as sensual, spicy fragrances comprise notes of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg and pepper cloves. These exotic scents exude warmth and mystery.
Gourmand
As the name suggests, these ‘edible’ notes are (almost) too delicious not to eat – think caramel, chocolate or coffee. They typically have a sweet element of vanilla or other spicy undertones, providing a warm and ultra-wearable scent.
TAKE NOTE
There are three different types of notes or ingredients that make up a fragrance – you get top notes, heart notes and base notes.
Top notes (Citrus and Lavender)
The scent hits the nose immediately after application and can last from 15 minutes to two hours.
Heart notes (Jasmine and Cinnamon)
The heart notes develop after the top note clears and can last from 3 - 5 hours after application.
Base Notes (Musks and Vanilla)
Base notes are the last to develop and only become noticeable later in the day. They last 5 to 10 hours after application.
