5 Steps to Getting Started with Indoor Plants
Indoor plants have many benefits. They purify the air and have mood-boosting properties that lower stress. From plant choice to plant care, we share our tips on creating a lush indoor garden.
Choose your plants
First, consider where in your space you want the plants to live. Is there enough light for them to thrive? Giving some thought to this upfront will help set you up for success as a new plant parent. You want to start with easy-care plants that don’t require too much tending to. Choosing plants that require low light will make growing your indoor garden easier. We recommend plants such as the peace lily, philodendrons or monsteras for low maintenance greenery indoors. Snake plant and succulents also make great plants for beginners, as they are resilient and easy to grow.
Caring for your plants
Watering your house plants is essential to help them grow. Take care not to under or over water your plants. To avoid this, follow the instructions on the tag that came with your plant. Ensure your planters have drainage holes at the bottom to allow adequate drainage in between watering.
Repotting
Keep an eye on your plants to ensure they have not outgrown the pot. A sure way to know is to check the bottom of the pot for roots growing through the drainage holes. Move the plants to bigger pots as soon as you see the roots sticking out and replant with the correct potting soil to keep your plants happy and thriving.
Artificial plants
Plants need care and attention to grow and if gardening is not your forté, artificial plants are a great low maintenance option. Artificial plants add a pop of colour in dimly lit spaces and hard to reach corners. Plus, they stay green all year round.
How to arrange planters
Choose planters that complement the overall style of your space for balance and visual interest. Play around with different textures and sizes to discover a style that works for your interiors.
