2 yummy new ways with waffles
Easter weekend is the perfect time to indulge in the delights of the homemade waffle. Try these new takes on this old favourite – one sweet, one savoury, both superbly satisfying.
1. Make the waffle
Combine 1 ½ cups flour, ⅔ cup maizena and one teaspoon baking powder. Crack 2 free range eggs and set the whites aside. Whisk the egg yolks into 1 ½ cups buttermilk and ¼ cup canola oil. Combine wet and dry ingredients. Whisk the egg whites separately until soft peaks form and fold into the mixture to make your batter.
Now, divide (and conquer!)
For a savoury waffle:
Fold in 1 cup of puréed peas, 1 cup grated gouda or matured cheddar, 2 tablespoons chopped chives and a pinch of salt.
For sweet success:
Simply add 2 tablespoons castor sugar and mix into the batter.
2. Top the waffle:
Savoury:
Top with 70 g Woolworths Crunchy Salad, 2–3 mini crumbed chicken breasts and 1 teaspoon of sriracha hot sauce.
Sweet:
Top with 1 large tablespoon of double cream, 3 cracked Woolworths Chocolate Hens Easter Eggs and 1 teaspoon of Woolworths Easter Spiced Creamed Honey.
