The Ultimate Back To School Checklist

Tick off everything on your list

"What happened to the holidays? Did I remember to pack everything for school? Will my little one be OK with this big change?"  No need to panic, parents.  We’ve compiled a checklist to help you get ready for the upcoming school year, and you can check it again and again at the start of each term to make sure your back-to-school 'to do' list is 100%.

New School Supplies

New lunch boxes and backpacks are fun things for your kids to pick out, so get them involved. When it comes to stationery, schools will often send you a back-to-school checklist of needed items. Make it fun with their favourite characters and colours.

School Uniform

Sometimes kids lose things. We’ve all been there. It's a new year so stock up on essentials for back to school. Always make sure you have 5 of each item in rotation, if possible, throughout the year. Don’t forget the socks and swimwear!

SHOP UNIFORM

Labelling Their Uniform

If your children are starting school or returning after the holidays, labelling is important because teachers have a lot of kids they are responsible for. Should their clothes get mixed up, they can easily recognise their own stuff in a pile. There are two ways you can label their school uniform. You can go for the iron-on labels, which will speed up the labelling process, but they usually lose their sticky efficiency after several washes, so you may need to reapply them every now and then. Second option would be sew-in labels, which are easy to do.

Lunch Box Ideas

Buy your kids’ favourite lunchtime foods to pack and plan your weekly menu on what to pack your child for school. And don’t forget the water bottles so they can stay hydrated. Preferably buy reusable ones.

Transportation

Designate a safe and visible pick-up/drop-off spot and practise the routine before the first day of school to eliminate extra anxiety for your child.

To Remember

Help your child memorise your home phone, work phone, and home address.

Your Child’s Health

Meet the teacher and inform the teacher of any medical conditions or important facts about your child. Organise your child’s medical history records and emergency medical contact information.

Be Supportive

Reassure your child that school is a safe place and everyone is here to help them succeed.

Capture The Moment

Capture the first day of school, and every start of a new term, by taking pictures and videos. At the end of the year, look back and see how much they’ve changed and grown.

Prepare For Mixed Emotions

All sorts of emotions may continue long after the first day of school. Make sure you regularly talk to your child about the changes that come with a new school, new friends, new work and new teachers. Let them know it’s OK to be nervous and ask if they have questions or concerns.

Bedtimes

If your kids have been up late over the festive season, get them back on a regular sleep routine. Getting them to bed earlier and back into a bedtime routine will help your kids transition back to early morning wake-up calls and feel refreshed for success.
