Routine & Your Toddler
Having little people to look after means adding a whole lot more to our to-do lists even though we already have so much to fit into our busy lives each day. While there’s no magic formula, there are things you can do to save time and simplify your life.
If you're not a member of Woolworths Littleworld yet, why not find out about the benefits?
Set An Example
- Be a role model and put things away. They’ll be more likely to do the same
- Reward little helpers. Kids love to get involved, so give them small tasks like tidying their rooms, setting and clearing tables and wiping up messes. Then reward them for their efforts
- Finish what you start. Showing children how to start and complete a project will set the foundation for their school years.
Don't Waste Your Time
- Plan – choose a regular time each week to plan menus, lifts, appointments and shopping
- To-do lists – make a list of things you need to do for work and home, and cross them off as you do them. Keep birthday calendars, and make sure you keep a notepad and pen next to your bed
- Keep it simple – don’t over plan your week. Keep your weekdays in steady routines and relax over the weekends
- Optimise your trips – try and run multiple errands in one go to save time and petrol
- Think bulk – when possible, buy things in bulk to save a trip and save money. When you prepare meals like stews or casseroles, make a few extras and freeze them. Always keep some Woolies kids’ meals in the freezer for ‘just in case’
Magical Morning Routine
- Get up before the kids for exercise or a quiet cuppa
- Be showered and dressed before they wake
- Lay their clothes out and pack lunchboxes and backpacks the night before
- Let the kids do as much as they can themselves
- Keep breakfast simple and portable.
Get Organised
- File, don’t pile – keep paperwork in one place and set time aside each week to deal with it. Recycle what you don’t need, make notes, and set up a filing system
- Throw it out – if you’re not sure whether to keep something ask yourself: do I love it, do I use it, do I really need it
- Put it away – have a place for everything and put things away in the same place when they’re no longer needed
