Soup with black onion seed dumplings
Soup for dinner might always be a good choice, but soup with steamed pillowy dumplings flavoured with onion seed – now that’s a great idea. And the best part is that the soup has already been expertly made by Woolies.

Ingredients:
- 3 x 600 g Woolworths Fresh Coconut Lentil Dhal Soup
- Fresh coriander, to garnish
- Fresh curry leaves, fried to garnish
For the dumplings
- 120 g Woolworths Self-raising Wheat Flour
- 1t Cerebos Iodated Table Salt
- 2T Woolworths Salted Butter, melted
- 1 Woolworths Free Range Extra Large Egg, beaten
- 2T Woolworths Onion Seeds
- 3T Woolworths Onion Flakes
- 160 ml Woolworths Ayrshire Cultured Low Fat Buttermilk
Cooking instructions:
- With the soup thawed (if previously frozen), reheat either on the stove or in the microwave as instructed.
- While the soup is being prepared, begin making the dumplings by combining the self-raising flour, salt, butter, egg, onion seeds and flakes.
- Pour in the buttermilk and combine to form a thick, spoonable batter.
- Once the soup begins to simmer, use 2 spoons to drop equally sized amounts of the dumpling batter into the soup and cover with a lid while they steam for 5 minutes.
- Serve the soup and dumplings in soup bowls garnished with crispy fried curry leaves and fresh coriander.
