As if you needed another excuse to sneak in some of our delicious hot cross buns this Easter! Here is our favourite way to eat them right now!

Hot cross bun French toast 2 ways

Easy Serves: 4 Preparation time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

Hot cross buns French toast:

  • BASIC FRENCH TOAST EGG MIX
  • 3 large free eggs
  • ¾ cup milk or cream

SAVOURY - Maple bacon and parmesan hot cross bun French toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 x 250 g Woolworths Streaky Wood Smoked Bacon
  • 1 sprig rosemary
  • 1 T maple syrup
  • 1 x 6-pack Woolworths Extra Spicy Hot Cross Buns
  • 30 g Woolworths Grated Medium Fat Hard Cheese

Cooking instructions:

  1. Make a batch of French toast mixture and set aside.
  2. Fry streaky bacon in a pan with butter until crispy. Add in the rosemary and maple syrup and turn off the heat.
  3. Melt some oil and butter together in a non-stick pan.
  4. Beat the egg mixture and briefly dunk the hot cross bun halves into the mixture.
  5. Sprinkle the cut side with grated parmesan and immediately fry in the butter and oil mixture until golden and cooked through.
  6. Serve with the maple bacon.

SWEET - Praline dusted ice cream hot cross bun French toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 x 6-pack Woolworths Chocolate Hot Cross Buns
  • 1 t vanilla extract
  • 1 T castor sugar
  • 1 x 70 g Woolworths Peanut Brittle

Cooking instructions:

  1. Make a batch of French toast mixture. Add vanilla and castor sugar to egg mixture and whisk to combine.
  2. Melt some oil and butter together in a non-stick pan.
  3. Briefly dunk the chocolate hot cross buns in the French toast mixture and fry in oil and butter mixture until golden and cooked through.
  4. Blend the peanut brittle in a blender to make a praline dust.
  5. Serve with the praline dust and your favourite ice cream, eat immediately.
