Entertaining in a time of Covid

Looking forward to special time with family and friends over the festive season, but not sure how to do it? Christmas will be different this year for sure, but there's no need to board up your house and pretend not to be home. Here are some tips to ensure your gathering allows for social distancing and reducing the spread.

Take it outside

Dining al fresco is a wonderful way to gather with friends and family while following all the government regulations around social distancing and reducing the spread. Take your entertaining outside, and show off all that lockdown gardening you did.

Your bubble or mine?

Keep families or households together by setting up seperate tables or pods of guests. Smaller pods allow for less touch points and you can hear each other talk much better this way. Add another level of fun by giving each pod their own platters or individual sheet trays of snacks and treats.

Bring your own picnic aka BYOP

If you're not ready to have people at your home, take it off-site to a park or botanical gardens. Ask your guests to bring their own picnic baskets, spread out and have socially distanced fun while reconnecting with your favourites.

Reusable

Disposable and reusable takeaway cutlery and crockery has moved way past single use plastic. Bamboo, stainless steel and wooden options are widely available. Use disposables for your outside gathering and minimise the risk of contamination.

Keep it clean

If you have an outside tap and basin, set up a handwashing station, or have a bucket of soap and water with a hose for easy cleaning. Stock up on hand sanitiser, wipes and paper towels. Make sure every table has their own bottle of sanitiser or even give your guests a mini bottle of sanitiser. Don't forget to buy disposable masks for guests who forgot their masks at home.
