2 delicious ways with homemade frikkadels
We love a good frikkadel, but what we love even more, is a clever way to serve them. If you feel the same, you need to check out these 2 versions – one delights with a snazzy smoor and savoury rice, the other surprises with a frozen mash hack!
Delicious beef frikkadels
Serves: 4 – 6
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 35 minutes
INGREDIENTS
1 kg free range lean beef mince
500 g tomatoes, finely diced
2 red onion, grated
½ cup parsley, chopped
½ cup breadcrumbs
2 free range eggs
2 T Worcestershire sauce
2 T brown vinegar
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
2 T olive oil
2 T butter
METHOD
- Preheat the oven to 180°C. To make the frikkadels, combine the mince , tomato, onion, parsley, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcester sauce and brown vinegar.
- Season to taste, then mould the mixture into large balls. Place on a lined baking tray and add the olive oil and butter. Bake for 20 minutes before turning over to bake for another 10–15 minutes until cooked through. Enjoy hot out of the oven!
Frikkadels with tray-baked smoor and savoury rice

Serves: 4
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 35 minutes
INGREDIENTS
200 g Woolworths Baby Rosa Tomatoes
2 red peppers, chargrilled over an open flame or under the grill
1 t garlic
1 x tomato paste can
3 T olive oil
1 t brown sugar
1 red onion, thinly sliced
Splash of water to loosen
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
A batch of baked frikkadels, warmed to serve
Woolworths Frozen Savoury Rice, cooked to package instructions, to serve
METHOD
- Preheat the oven to 180°C. Peel and deseed your chargrilled peppers. Cut into chunks and add to a baking dish along with the remaining ingredients. Roast for 30 minutes. Season to taste.
- Serve with your baked frikkadels and warm savoury rice.
Instant frikkadel cottage pie
Serves: 4
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
INGREDIENTS
1 t garlic
1 T olive oil
Batch of baked frikkadels
600 g Woolworths Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce
1 kg Woolworths Frozen Mash
Splash of milk, for the mash
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
METHOD
- Preheat your oven to 200°C. Cook the frozen mash to package instructions and allow to cool slightly before spooning into a large piping bag. Set aside.
- Heat the garlic in the olive oil and a ovenproof pan, add a jar of Woolworths Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce and bring to a simmer. Nestle in your baked frikkadels and remove from the heat.
- Pipe the smooth and creamy potato mash over the tomato sauce and frikkadels and bake in the oven for 15–20 minutes until the mash is lovely and golden and the sauce is bubbling. Serve hot!
