Simple soups for every occasion
Winter is coming, which means soup is on the menu for sure. But the humble soup is more versatile than you know – really, it’s perfect for every occasion, from a simple weekday winner to a fancy sit-down with all of the flair.
For a weekday wonder:
There can be few things as comforting as a bowl of pea soup on a wintry weekday – and few things as easy as using our split pea soup mix for your dinner. Follow the cooking instructions, then add a dollop of crème fraîche, sliced mange tout, freshly ground black pepper and baked bacon pieces. Easy!
For a lazy weekend chowdown:
Weekends are not made to be spending hours in the kitchen. Heat some ready-made creamy tomato soup on the stove. Next, prepare some killer toasted cheese sarmies with sourdough, mozzarella and our 10 months matured gouda. Serve the soup with fresh basil, roasted red pepper pesto, and cheese sandwiches on the side. Enjoy!
For a fancy sit down dinner:
Boss coming to dinner? Wow him or her with ready-made butternut soup with a twist. Fry sliced chorizo in olive oil. Add a clove of garlic, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika and 1 can of drained chickpeas and fry for a minute. Divide the soup and topping between the bowls. Crumble over feta and add a teaspoon of basil pesto. Yum!
For a bit of excitement:
Whoever said soup was boring stopped paying attention years ago. There’s a world of flavour waiting for you, so why not try something new? Heat two cans of Woolworths Mexican Chicken & Bean soup. Add 2 cups of veggie stock and let simmer. Add 300 g of cooked black beans and 1 cup of cooked corn kernels. Season with Tabasco and fresh lime. Serve with fresh coriander, full cream plain yoghurt, and tangy guacamole.
For your Sunday fridge forage:
Got a few carrots lying around? A bit of celery? Some leftover chard? Minestrone, here we come. Just add stock, a can of chopped tomatoes and canned beans. Some sliced chorizo would not go amiss. And if your fridge is bare, well you can always just opt for our ready-made 10 veg minestrone …
