Quick and easy breakfasts

Valentine’s day is a great excuse to surprise your partner with breakfast in bed. Rope in the kids and present an Instagram-worthy spread. Whether you have 10 minutes or 40, you’ll be able to whip up something delicious.

If you have ten minutes

Try a poched breakfast pear with honey and yoghurt.

  1. Steam pears in a steamer until they start to soften. Using a sharp knife, slice through carefully.
  2. Sprinkle with some of the oats and seeds then plate.
  3. Serve the yoghurt and remaining oats and seeds on the side. Drizzle with the honey.

If you have twenty minutes

Try a breakfast papaya and chocolate walnuts
  1. Roll walnuts into melted chocolate and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  2. Place in the fridge to set. Mix some coconut with yoghurt and fill each papaya half with the mixture.
  3. Scatter your chocolate-coated walnuts on top and serve.

If you have forty minutes

Try a baked breakfast omlette.

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Grease 1 large baking pan or 4 smaller ones. Roll up the bacon rashers and place in the pan. Bake for 10 minutes. Add the sausage and bake for a further 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes.
  3. Whisk the eggs until fluffy. Pour into the pan and reduce the heat to 160°C. Bake for 8 to 12 minutes, or until the egg is pale golden and just set.
  4. Add a little black pepper and sprinkle with basil leaves. Season to taste with salt at the table.
  5. Trim the crusts off the bread and cut into triangles. Place on a baking sheet and toast at 200°C for 15 minutes, or until crisp and golden. Serve with the omelette.
