How to make the perfect pot of tea
Turn your daily tea-making routine into a ritual befitting of this classic brew.
Getting started
While there is no ‘right’ way to make tea, fresh water and a clean teapot will give you the best results. On the boil
Bring fresh water to the boil. Use as many cups of water as you will need tea. Incidentally, this will also mean less water wastage and a quicker boil time than if you fill an entire kettle for just two cups of tea.Prep the pot
Warm the teapot with some boiling water, swill it around, and then pour it out.Choose your variety
Select your favourite tea – or experiment with new varieties, like green, peppermint, or soothing lemon and ginger. Use one teabag per person, and one for the pot. As soon as the water is boiled, pour it over the teabags.Let the magic happen
Allow the teabags to steep for three to five minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea. Stir once and pour. Serve with or without milk or – in the case of herbal teas – a squeeze of fresh lemon and a dollop of honey. Then put up your feet, relax and enjoy.
