How To Identify Your Skin Type

There are five basic types of skin. Your specific skin type is genetically determined, which means you are born with it. Understanding your skin type helps you choose the right beauty care products  and create a skincare routine to achieve that beautiful healthy glow.

  1. NORMAL SKIN

Is your skin perfectly balanced, neither sensitive, nor dry or oily? Then you have a normal skin type. Normal skin is usually the least problematic type with little or no oil visible on the surface. To maintain your healthy skin, apply sun protection daily and keep up a good skincare routine.
  2. DRY SKIN

Does your skin often feel flaky and rough, or tight immediately after you’ve cleansed your skin? Then you might have a dry skin type. Dry skin can easily develop a sallow tone, fine lines, and is extremely susceptible to aging and irritation. To keep your skin looking healthy and youthful, apply thorough sun protection, avoid harsh products and keep your skin moisturised.
  3. OILY SKIN

Does your skin often look shiny and feel greasy with excess oil? Then you could have an oily skin type. Oily skin can be problematic, with a characteristic orange peel texture, enlarged pores, and a tendency to get breakouts. One good thing that comes from having an oily skin type is that your skin stays younger for longer. Choose oil control products that are gentle on the skin and still adds much-needed hydration.
  4. COMBINATION SKIN

Does your skin feel dry in some areas and oily in others at the same time? Then you probably have a combination skin type. Combination skin has patches of both dry and oily skin. This skin type requires a different skincare routine. Dry zones, usually located on the cheeks and around the eyes, should be treated with nourishing moisturisers, while oily areas, usually on the forehead and nose (t-zone), will benefit from thorough cleansing and hydration.
  5. SENSITIVE SKIN

Does your skin get an immediate reaction after using certain products? Then you might have a sensitive skin type. Sensitive skin is usually always dry, has a tight, warm feeling and gets inflamed rather quickly with easy irritation. Typically sensitive skin is prone to acne and breakouts. To keep sensitive skin calm, wash your face with gentle cleansers and soothing products free of irritants and perfumes.
