Keep calm, baby!

A crying baby can strike fear into the bravest of hearts. If your baby is crying, you have to first make sure her specific needs are met – if she's hungry or tired, rocking her won't really help. Once you're sure she's clean, warm, fed and burped and she's not ill or in pain, she may just need to be calmed down. Try these ways to calm your baby:

  1. MASSAGE

There's nothing more soothing than a mother's loving touch.

  2. MUSIC

Find music that calms you and chances are, it will also calm your baby. You will notice your baby relax and it works very well for older children who are irritable. Try some well-known lullabies and nursery rhymes.

  3. SINGING

Your baby has loved the sound of your voice since before birth. She doesn't care if you can't hold a tune.
  4. MOVEMENT

Take your baby for a walk in the stroller or a drive around the neighbourhood. Movement will always soothe your irritable baby. Baby carriers or slings are perfect for soothing. You can also exercise your baby's body (at any age). Cycle his legs, open and fold the arms or gently roll him from side to side.

  5. GET OUT

Getting out of the house is great for baby. Try to take him to places with trees or running water. Hearing the soothing sounds of nature will capture his attention and lull him to sleep. Getting some fresh air is never a bad idea.
