The easiest (and cheesiest) guide to wine pairing
So you think wine pairing sounds scary? Here’s what to pair with all the major food groups: namely cheese, ribs and burritos. All you need to do is find the wine aisle.
Stumped on which wines to serve with your favourite food?
We’ve got some guidelines for you.
With cheesy food
Planning a pizza night? Or even a next-level cheese toastie? Head for the reds. Opt for a juicy, fruit-driven Merlot, Pinotage or a light Cabernet Sauvignon blend.
With smokey food
If your menu includes a BLT with wood-smoked bacon or sticky ribs, try a glass of Shiraz. Look for one with peppery notes to match the smokey meat.
With spicy food
Cooking up a hot curry? Go for a Chenin or a Riesling with a touch of sweetness. For something laced with chilli – like a burrito – a slightly more dry white wine would fit the bill. Try a glass of Chardonnay, or a lightly wooded Viognier.
Cheers!
