Milestones (22-24 months)

Month 22

Most children should be able to:

  • Imitate the behaviour of others.
  • Show good signs of bladder control.
  • Follow two step directions.
  • Start to learn up to 10 words or more per day.

Some children may be able to:

  • Form short but complete and understandable sentences.
  • Identify several parts of the body.
  • Walk down stairs with some assistance.

Month 23

Most children should be able to:

  • Walk down stairs with some assistance.
  • Identify parts of their own body.
  • Name pictures in books.
  • Like puzzles.

Some children may be able to:

  • Form three or four word sentences.
  • Put on clothing alone.

Month 24

Most children should be able to:

  • Form three or four word sentences.
  • Put on clothing alone.


Some children may be able to:

  • Walk down stairs unassisted.
  • Talk about themselves.
  • Arrange things in categories.
  • Start asking questions.

This is only a guide; your baby may hit this milestones earlier or later than her peers. If you are worried about her development, contact your health professional.
