Milestones (16-18 months)

Month 16

Most toddlers should be able to:

  • Turn the pages of a book when you read.
  • Sing and like to sing.
  • Get upset when frustrated.
  • Get attached to stuffed animals or other objects.

Some toddlers may be able to:

  • Walk backwards.
  • Say up to 10 or 15 words.

Month 17

Most toddlers should be able to:

  • Start to climb and explore.
  • Enjoy certain games.
  • Like to ride toys.

Some toddlers may be able to:

  • Run well.
  • Use certain words regularly.
  • Become picky about certain foods.

Month 18

Most toddlers should be able to:

  • Say at least 15 or 20 words.
  • Draw a scribble well.
  • Run well.
  • Feed themselves with a spoon.

Some toddlers may be able to:

  • String words together to make phrases or put together pairs of words.
  • Jump around.
  • Brush their teeth with help.
  • Take off an article of clothing alone.

This is only a guide; your baby may hit this milestones earlier or later than her peers. If you are worried about her development, contact your health professional.
