Little ones' safety

We're constantly striving to better protect children. We're not just committed to the safety of little ones, we're passionate about it.

Safeguard
Home is where children learn, laugh and love, but, sadly, it's also where most accidents happen. Here are some safety tips for a more child-friendly home:

  • Install child-safety gates at staircases
  • Lock away medicines, toiletries, cleaning agents, chemicals and insecticides
  • Cover all electrical plug sockets
  • Prevent access to electrical and electronic appliances
  • Install child-safety latches to bathroom and kitchen cupboard doors and drawers
  • Put padding on table corners
  • Ensure floor surfaces are not slippery, especially in the bathroom and kitchen
  • Always run cold water into the bath before hot water
  • Check that the bath water is not too hot before putting your child into it
  • Never leave babies or young children unsupervised in the bath
  • When cooking, turn pot handles inwards
  • Store knives and scissors out of reach
  • Never leave babies or young children on high counters
  • Check that curtains or blinds don't have dangling cords
  • Use safety glass or mark large glass panes
  • Ensure safety on a balcony
  • Never leave children unsupervised around pools, ponds and water features
  • Safeguard pools with a fence and/or safety net
  • Teach your baby or child to float and swim
  • Remember that nothing replaces vigilance, so always keep an eye on your little one

Smart moms buckle up!

  • When travelling by car, always strap babies and children into age-appropriate SABS-approved car seats
  • In a 50 kilometre per hour crash, a four-year-old weighing 20 kilograms would hit the first solid object with a force of 400 kilograms
  • Using a properly-fitted child seat or restraint can reduce fatal injuries by up to 75% [source:www.arrivealive.co.za]
